War of the Worlds is a 2005 film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the sci-fi novel by HG Wells. The film is not a remake of the 1953 film, but a more faithful retelling of the original Wells story. It stars Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Justin Chatwith, Miranda Otto and Tim Robbins. Morgan Freeman provides the film's brief narration at the beginning and end.
